Do we call it tokenism when a realtor is more qualified than any man at Phoenix Chamber of Commerce for Vice President position?

The Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce hired a realtor over scores of more qualified males as its Vice President of Public affairs.

Here’s her background – she’s been head of a non-existent Arizona non-profit for 10 years, National Federation of Independent Business. Yes, this organization operates nationally, but has less than 100 members in Arizona. Ironically, if you look at Indeed.com, a job search engine, this organization is currently looking for an “Outside Sales Representative” to replace Bolton. So she wasn’t head of the organization, she was its lone Arizona sales person.

She was also a member of all these realtor organizations – because she’s been a realtor when the economy was good.

The Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce passed over men with MBAs with years of lobbying experience for this? Time to not renew your Chamber membership.

“The Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce named Michelle Bolton vice president of public affairs and economic development.

“Bolton, former Arizona director for the National Federation of Independent Business replaces Todd Sanders, who moved into the group’s president-CEO slot. Bolton will represent the chamber’s 3,400 business members with government officials at the local, county, state and federal levels.

“The relationship between the Valley’s business community and the state legislature is crucial, perhaps now more than ever,” Sanders said.

“Bolton’s career in legislative affairs also includes American Land Title Association, Associated Builders and Contractors, Realtors Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh and serving as an aide (secretary) to U.S. Rep. Rick Santorum, who later became a senator for Pennsylvania.

“She had been with the NFIB for 10 years, and her last day was Friday. The small-business group is in the process of interviews for a replacement and hopes to have someone in place by the end of the month, a spokeswoman said. (of course the Chamber passed over more qualified men for this position).

  1. Your blog is inaccurate and offensive. Had you actually done your homework, you would know the following:
    1. She is pursuing her MBA at the University of Arizona and will graduate this fall; so, no, the Chamber clearly did not pass up MBA's applying for the job.
    2. The National Federation of Independent Business in Arizona has 10,000 small business members of the organization... not 100 as you state in your inaccurate blog post.
    3. The sale position posted on the NFIB.com website is for a sales position, not her former position. If you are not familiar with NFIB... then you have never stepped foot in any of the 50 state capitals or in Washington, DC. In fact, you have never stepped foot into a small business.
    4. She is NOT a realtor and has never been a realtor. She has never sold one piece of real estate as a real estate agent.
    5. She has never been a member of the groups you mentioned. She worked for those non profits. In fact, she has spent over 15 years in issue advocacy, political work, and association work. The last 10 years of her work has been in Arizona.
    6. Additionally, she had spent time on Capitol Hill as an intern and later as an aide to Santorum - not a secretary as you so inaccurately state in your commentary.

In sum, you are clueless. You should not report things that are untrue and inaccurate. You should be ashamed of yourself for not doing your homework. And, on top of it all... you are a man (I assume - given your rants about how men are treated unfairly) who doesn't even have enough guts to display your profile on who you really are. I encourage anyone who actually reads your nonsense to do their own independent investigation of the matter. They'd be better for it if they did not read what you have to say.

  2. MEN who ALREADY have - not gonna get - an MBA applied for this position. MEN who have worked with governors and mayors. None of them were interviewed!

Believe you should get your facts. So, if they advertised for a sales position, why not advertise for an Executive, too?

Also, check this from 2001 Arizona legislature, where is Ms. Bolton's name for National Federation of Independent Business?

It is Michelle Covelle for National Federation of Independent Business. http://www.azleg.state.az.us/iminute/house/0920%20house%20ad%20hoc%20cmte%20on%20az%20business%20climate.doc.htm

  3. Seriously man... you are an uninformed person. It's the same person. And, you have the last name spelled wrong. If YOU have a MBA... we need to call your school so that they can ask for it back.

BTW - how would YOU know who applied for the job? Do you work for the Chamber? Oh wait... you must have applied for the job and didn't get an interview. It appears to me (and the one other person who wastes their time to read your women-hater blog) that you are a very bitter, unhappy person. I hope that you can find some normal happiness in your life instead of publishing mis-statements about people... in particular women. Good luck!

  4. To all readers of this blog (if there are any besides me and what appears to be four other commenters): I stumbled on this blog site. If you want the real facts, I'd suggest calling NFIB or the Chamber yourself to get the story straight. This mystery blogger has no idea what s/he is talking about.

You know what's wrong with blogging... you have people like this who can write all kinds of mistruths about people and not disclose who they are to the public.

  5. NFIB did post the state director position on their website (when they were seeking applicants). And, if you were plugged in at the Capitol, you would know that they posted the State Director position in the Arizona Capitol Times (print ad).

The other advertisements for sales positions in Arizona are for just that... sales positions. I confirmed all of this by calling NFIB's headquarters in Nashville, TN.

  6. Wow - what a concept! A woman gets married and she decides to take on her husband's last name.

Buddy, you have no idea what you are talking about. You have no credibility.

  7. To all: here's the job posting in the Arizona Capitol Times for the NFIB state director post. Page down for the posting... and, it's not for a "Sales Job" as this uninformed blogger states in the initial posting. http://azcapitoltimes.com/capitol-careers/

  8. Is this hate speech against women?

  9. Whomever is leaving all these comments - assuming it is Michelle Bolton - all indications point to that - is giving the best definition of MISANDRY. Too bad the poster is too stupd to know the word.
