Double standards for sexual harassment

Yesterday an older man was fired from my company. It seems one of the “gals” had a penchant for wearing low cut tops and he couldn’t keep his eyes away.

Could you keep from looking – male or female – if I came to work showing part of my testicles?

No, I’d be sent home right away – more than likely arrested for indecent exposure. Yet for decades (and it is a new trend throughout history) women have been allowed to expose their breasts or wear extremely short skirts and men aren’t suppose to look. Why?

It is human nature to look at the unusual. Why do you think traffic slows on interstate highways in the other direction when there’s an accident – it’s unusual.

But courts have fined men, found against them in dismissals, and more for looking at exposed private parts on women. In Middle Eastern countries women would be imprisoned for such action – even having their hair exposed.

Yet in the West it is encouraged. Go to any bar or social setting any night of the week.

If a woman is looking at another woman exposing herself, that’s okay. Why?

We should rethink the Pat Schroeder comment about sexual harassment in the U.S. House – “Gentlemen, that is one, not two words.”
