Arizona female governor prefers uneducated female over M.B.A. (MBA) men for touism office head

Arizona’s temporary agency female governor (all the temporary agency governors in past 20 years have been female, Rose Mofford, Jane Hull, Jan Brewer) appointed another female to head the Arizona Office of Tourism. This agency is less than 8 percent male.

This time Brewer appointed a woman with no college degree over men with 30 years marketing experience and M.B.A.s. That’s great for an agency responsible for the state’s #1 industry, tourism.

Let’s look at why Arizona leads the nation in job loss (according to Arizona Republic). Below is a list of its tourism industry leaders – all female. Let’s see, the nation’s economy tanks after women dominate the workforce, tourism drops in Phoenix, the city leads the nation in job losses. When will people realize you need both men and women to make a profit? Not having diversity is harmful.

There has not been a governor elected to the office (without being appointed by a resignation) who has served his or her full term in office in 50 years. You wonder what’s killing Arizona and why it has the fewest Fortune 500 headquarters per capita of any state outside New Mexico?

EEOC has dismissed EVERY complaint men file against the tourism industry in Arizona. No decimation here.

  1. You failed to mention that the Governor appointed a MAN as Deputy Director for the Office of Tourism. Mr. Stanton's appointment actually replaced a woman in that role, and it was a great move. However, you're a little behind in other info as well. At least three of the people that you list above are no longer in those roles. In addition, the vast majority of these people are PR Directors (not "Tourism Industry Leaders").

Every single one of the General Managers at those properties are men. EVERY SINGLE ONE! Unfortunately, men don't tend to select PR as a career path, therefore women dominate those positions. It's not because men are being discrimintated against. Every position at the Phoenix CVB is filled with men - and yet that's the city that you specifically mention as suffering.

Having said all of that, I agree with you that both men and women are needed in our workforce. I'm just not jumping on the consipiracy bandwagon.

  2. Wow - your investigative reporting isn't so good. You are a person who sees one position filled by a woman, and all of a sudden, she's unqualified (in your terms) or your cry foul.

Let's recap on the Governor's appointments -the men:
    1. John S. Halikowski, Director of ADOT
    2. Benjamin H. Grumbles, Director of Arizona Dept. of Environmental Quality
    3. Jeff Hatch-Miller, Arizona Lottery
    4. Don Cardon, Arizona Dept. of Commerce
    5. Neal Young, Arizona Department of Economic Security
    6. Don Butler, Az Dept. of Agriculture
    7. Bill Mundell, Az Registrar of Contractors

And, I could go on, and on, and on.

Those already in the position... either as a hold over from Napolitano or an interim director:
    1. Will Humble, interim director of Az Dept. of Health Services
    2. Tony Rodgers, Director of Arizona Health Care Group (the state's health care plan for small biz)
    3. David Rabner, interim director of Az Dept. of Administration
    4. Gale Garrett (this is a man), director of Az. Dept. of Revenue
    5. Gene Palma, Az. Dept. of Weights and Measures

And, I could go on, and on, and on.

Like the person said before... you need to get your stories straight. Don't write something you don't know or haven't researched.
